Metropolitan Women Police Association
The Metropolitan Women Police Association (MWPA) was established in 1976 by a group of women officers following the integration of female officers into the wider Metropolitan Police Service in March 1973, which led to the disbandment of the specialist women’s department.
The Association was created to help women stay connected after being dispersed across London or leaving the service altogether.
Membership is open to anyone who has served as a female officer or special constable in the Metropolitan Police. Our members are based across the UK and internationally, and range in age from 25 to 100.
We stay in touch through Facebook, our website, local meet-ups, and a variety of organised trips and events, including at Metropolitan Bushey.
As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2026, we are planning a commemorative lunch and a programme of celebratory events throughout the year.
We warmly welcome women who are currently serving, preparing to retire, or already retired.
While we maintain a link to the Metropolitan Police Service through our President, the MWPA is not an official MPS resource, and we do not offer formal advice or mentoring services.
