General Assistants
The Position:
This role is for a team member who will be the face of our club, maintaining consistently high standards of service and exceeding customer expectations at all times.
Your Duties:
- Serving drinks and food
- Washing dishes and glasses
- Entertaining and talking with customers
- Tallying the bill and collecting money
- Organising and helping with events
- Stocking drinks, glasses or fruit and food
- Cleaning tables, collecting glasses, tidying up litter
- Cleaning the bar & function rooms
- Setting up / packing down furniture
- Any reasonable request from the Line Manager
Who we are looking for:
Ideally, you will have previous bar work and waiting experience in a customer-facing role. We are looking for someone who is friendly, outgoing and able to take on a challenge. You will have a professional, customer-focused approach and a can-do attitude. You will need to undergo a basic DBS (Criminal Record) check as part of this role. The company will reimburse the cost of the check

Metropolitan is a venue previously known as Metropolitan Police Bushey Sports Club. We operate a 36-acre sports facility in Hertfordshire, with an event space with 7 hireable rooms and a number of our own events. We want to provide a positive customer experience for all of our users at the Metropolitan.
We are a 7 days a week business and as such the ideal candidate will need to be flexible and adaptable especially with their working schedule to suit the business needs.

Team Leader
The Position:
Efficient management of shift, maintaining consistently high standards of service and
exceeding customer expectations at all times. To effectively manage all areas required on
the day, to operate and maintain the unit to ensure that performance and profit is maximised
whilst ensuring that all company policies and procedures are adhered to.
Your Duties:
- To ensure all services are opened and fully operational at scheduled times,
standards are maintained throughout the service, particularly delivering exceptional
levels of customer care and satisfaction, and affecting a smooth handover of shifts - Ensuring operational and service checklists are completed thoroughly, with attention
to detail focusing on service led issues. Ensure the secure and safe keeping of stock,
goods and equipment, ensuring that stock is accounted for and that control
procedures are complied with - Effective and efficient management of the staff and assisting in service where
necessary - Ensuring staff are punctual, in correct uniform, and complying with the general
guidelines outlined by the management - Ensure all human resource policies and procedures are adhered to
- Maintain a high profile in service areas, especially during the busy periods
- Ensure that all cash is controlled and accounted for, floats and tills are reconciled,
sufficient provision of floats and safes properly maintained and that all financial
controls and procedures are complied with - Ensure that cashing up is carried out at the agreed times and banked in a timely
manner, in accordance with financial procedures. - Ensure that the venue is run in a safe, orderly and disciplined manner in accordance
with the conditions of the licenses, policy and Health & Safety requirements and in
doing so shall - Ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained in the main venue and
associated areas, including cellars and back office, supported by a cleaning schedule
and adherence to best practice - Ensure that the cellar is kept in a safe, clean and hygienic state
- Ensure that the kitchen is maintained in a clean, safe and hygienic order, identifying
hazards and problems and seeking solutions - Work in safe manner, seeking to minimise hazards to ensure the safety of other staff
and customers, and reporting all safety hazards - Ensure that all health & safety, fire and building regulations and procedures are
complied with - Act as Team Leader, opening and securing premises
- Monitor, supervise and report back the work of the security staff
- Reporting incidents in the Duty Log and filing reports to other staff as required
(minor/major incidents & accidents) - Work closely and cooperatively with other departments
- Ensure compliance with all requirements of the license and licensing law at all times
- Plan and control holidays within the operation to ‘self cover where practicable
- Any reasonable request from the General Manager

Bar/Waiting Staff
The Position:
We are looking for confident, reliable, friendly bar & waiting staff for our busy bar & function rooms.
We have a variety of shifts available, all on a casual basis, some can be regular shifts and others based on our events schedule, as required. These can include daytimes, but usually evenings and at weekends.
Ideally, you will already have some bar and/or waiting experience, and will need to be over 18 to work on the bar. However, training is given if you have some or no experience but have a willingness to learn.
The role includes:

- Waiting tables for customers, serving food & drink
- Serving drinks and working behind our bars
- Assisting customers with any needs, food, drinks, condiments

- Cleaning the bar & back of house areas

Head Chef
The Position:
We are looking for a dynamic candidate who will work with our Management Team and lead our Kitchen Team to take the food offering at Metropolitan to the next level. With four function rooms and a large Bar/Restaurant there is plenty to do whether catering en-masse for 250 people, or individual bar meals. We are looking for the person who can help us build a great reputation for good quality casual dining & great food for functions & events.
As part of the operations team, you will be responsible for day-to-day operations of our venue with a specific responsibility for the kitchen. In your capacity of Head Chef, you will be responsible for attracting new and retaining current customers, and managing the staff in your charge. This is a varied and hands-on role; no two days will be the same.
Our Head Chef role will need to be experienced with both events, banqueting and casual pub dining. Able to create new menus as required, and the ability to consistently lead our kitchen to achieve excellent service for our guests and customers.
You will be required to work flexible hours for the days that the Club is open including long days, weekends, split shifts or half days as required.
Your Duties:
As Head Chef you will be reporting to the Operations Manager and ultimately the Managing Director and be part of the small management team developing the business. You will be responsible for helping to drive the business forward being key in achieving the success of Metropolitan.
An extremely important part of the business is ensuring we have a well-trained and organised operations team that delivers great service to all our customers. Our Head Chef, along with the management team will be responsible for:
- Leading the team in the kitchen
- Creating & costing menus for our casual dining & events as required
- Ensuring all our customers receive service.
- Keeping the menu fresh with new daily specials & interesting dishes whilst maintaining cost control
- Proven experience with Vegan & Healthy options
- Supporting the management team & other roles to ensure all tasks are fulfilled
- Acting as Duty Manager as and when required to fulfil the needs of the business.
- Stock management including ordering stock from appointed suppliers and pricechecking suppliers regularly
- Team training
- Detailed food & allergies knowledge
- Shift Management & cleaning rota for the kitchen
- General kitchen & bar duties
- Maintaining kitchens, stock and equipment with high cleaning standards
- Preparing food during special events eg. Weddings
Your Skills
- Ideally some previous experience as Head Chef, supervisory experience a bonus
- Exceptional communication and presentational skills
- An ability to think on your feet whilst under pressure and maintaining a positive outlook
- Excellent attention to detail
- Maximise profit in growing the business
- Be fully accountable for the performance of our food service
- Drive a culture of exceptional customer service to encourage repeat business
