General Assistants

The Position:

This role is for a team member who will be the face of our club, maintaining consistently high standards of service and exceeding customer expectations at all times.

Your Duties:

  • Serving drinks and food
  • Washing dishes and glasses
  • Entertaining and talking with customers
  • Tallying the bill and collecting money
  • Organising and helping with events
  • Stocking drinks, glasses or fruit and food

Team Leader

The Position:

Efficient management of shift, maintaining consistently high standards of service and
exceeding customer expectations at all times. To effectively manage all areas required on
the day, to operate and maintain the unit to ensure that performance and profit is maximised
whilst ensuring that all company policies and procedures are adhered to.

Your Duties:

  • To ensure all services are opened and fully operational at scheduled times,
    standards are maintained throughout the service, particularly delivering exceptional
    levels of customer care and satisfaction, and affecting a smooth handover of shifts
  • Ensuring operational and service checklists are completed thoroughly, with attention
    to detail focusing on service led issues. Ensure the secure and safe keeping of stock,
    goods and equipment, ensuring that stock is accounted for and that control
    procedures are complied with
  • Effective and efficient management of the staff and assisting in service where
    necessary
  • Ensuring staff are punctual, in correct uniform, and complying with the general
    guidelines outlined by the management
  • Ensure all human resource policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Maintain a high profile in service areas, especially during the busy periods
  • Ensure that all cash is controlled and accounted for, floats and tills are reconciled,
    sufficient provision of floats and safes properly maintained and that all financial
    controls and procedures are complied with
  • Ensure that cashing up is carried out at the agreed times and banked in a timely
    manner, in accordance with financial procedures.
  • Ensure that the venue is run in a safe, orderly and disciplined manner in accordance
    with the conditions of the licenses, policy and Health & Safety requirements and in
    doing so shall
  • Ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained in the main venue and
    associated areas, including cellars and back office, supported by a cleaning schedule
    and adherence to best practice
  • Ensure that the cellar is kept in a safe, clean and hygienic state
  • Ensure that the kitchen is maintained in a clean, safe and hygienic order, identifying
    hazards and problems and seeking solutions
  • Work in safe manner, seeking to minimise hazards to ensure the safety of other staff
    and customers, and reporting all safety hazards
  • Ensure that all health & safety, fire and building regulations and procedures are
    complied with
  • Act as Team Leader, opening and securing premises
  • Monitor, supervise and report back the work of the security staff
  • Reporting incidents in the Duty Log and filing reports to other staff as required
    (minor/major incidents & accidents)
  • Work closely and cooperatively with other departments
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements of the license and licensing law at all times
  • Plan and control holidays within the operation to ‘self cover where practicable
  • Any reasonable request from the General Manager

Bar/Waiting Staff

The Position:

We are looking for confident, reliable, friendly bar & waiting staff for our busy bar & function rooms.

We have a variety of shifts available, all on a casual basis, some can be regular shifts and others based on our events schedule, as required. These can include daytimes, but usually evenings and at weekends.

Ideally, you will already have some bar and/or waiting experience, and will need to be over 18 to work on the bar. However, training is given if you have some or no experience but have a willingness to learn.

The role includes:

    • Waiting tables for customers, serving food & drink
    • Serving drinks and working behind our bars
    • Assisting customers with any needs, food, drinks, condiments
    • Taking payments
    • Cleaning the bar & back of house areas
    • Glass, plate & cutlery collecting & washing

Sous Chef

The Position:

We are looking for an ambitious and dynamic candidate who will join our team and help us take the food offering at Metropolitan to new heights. With four function rooms and a large Bar/Restaurant there is plenty to do whether catering en-masse for 250 people, or individual bar meals. We are looking for a person who can help us build a great reputation for great pub grub & fine food for functions.

You will be required to work weekends including long days, possibly split shifts or half days as required.

Your Duties:

An extremely important part of the business is ensuring we have a well-trained and organised operations team that delivers great service to all our customers.

  • Proven experience with Vegan & Healthy options
  • Stock management including ordering stock from appointed suppliers and price-checking suppliers regularly
  • Detailed food & allergies knowledge
  • General kitchen & bar duties
  • Maintaining kitchens, stock and equipment with high cleaning standards
  • Preparing food during special events eg. Weddings

Your skills:

  • Previous experience as a chef

Groundsperson

The Position:

You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance & upkeep of our sporting facilities, the upkeep and tidiness of our 36acre estate, including being a part of our Grounds team. You will become a part of the wider team in running this busy event & sports venue. This is a varied and hands-on role; no day will be the same as the other.

Your Duties:

As Groundsman you will be reporting to the Head of Grounds and be part of the small team developing the business. You will be responsible for helping to drive the business forward and therefore key in helping the success of Metropolitan.

An extremely important part of the business is making sure we have well-tended & maintained sports pitches, plus the ongoing drive to keep the Metropolitan looking smart whatever the weather. The Groundsman will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining all Football, Cricket & Bowls areas throughout the year, bringing them up to the best standards possible.
  • General upkeep of the grounds and buildings (primarily external) on the 36 acre site, to minimise litter, repair damages & keep gardens looking smart.
  • Be a part of the site maintenance team, working with the team to help maintain Metropolitan and make the most of the facility as we can.
  • Help us maintain and upgrade our machinery, tools and equipment, to help us improve our service to all customers, whether sporting or events.
  • Cleanliness of the whole site, clubhouse, outside & changing rooms
  • Working on events, helping prepare the site for festivals, corporate hires & weddings

Key to this is organisation, planning and commitment. On top of this we need someone who is prepared to get their hands dirty, has knowledge of different sporting surfaces and a can-do attitude to getting the job done.

Duty Manager

The Position:

You will be responsible for day-to-day front of house service for our venue, attracting new and retaining current customers, and managing the staff in their charge. This is a varied and hands-on role, the ideal candidate will have previous experience in a hospitality role.

As a Duty Manager you will be reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager and be part of the small team looking after the front of house operations of the business.

Your Duties:

  • Represent the Company in a professional manner at all times, upholding the brand, customer service and operating standards and values
  • Maintain a full knowledge of all products and services to ensure consistency in service and standards
  • Ensure the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times in the premises as well as personal presentation
  • Maintain full and accurate cash control at all times
  • Maintain, enforce and comply with any and all premises licence conditions in relation to the operation of the business
  • Maximise sales, including increasing the spend per head and repeat purchases, from customers
  • Minimise costs, wine wastage at all times
  • Working with the F&B Manager, Manage and develop effectively the employees working under his/her control to maximise efficiency, personal development and performance
  • Ensure high level of customer service throughout our bar and events.
  • Achieve agreed standard of service and take appropriate action as necessary to train the team in order to achieve the KPI’s
  • Coordinate what is required for all bookings/events and delegate tasks in order to deliver the perfect event for our customers. This covers room hire events as well as sports bookings.
  • Oversee running events with numbers varying from 10 – 200
  • Working alongside the F&B Manager and Head Chef and helping to maintain our high standards in the Front of House Team
